We hope you had a wonderful May! In this issue, we’re sharing information about IRMAA and income, guidance to help you travel safely and confidently with Medicare, tips for staying active as you age, and a reminder of the value your licensed insurance broker brings to your coverage and peace of mind.
If your income is above a certain level, you may pay more for Medicare through a surcharge called IRMAA (Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount). This charge is added to your standard Medicare Part B and Part D premiums and is based on your income from two years prior.
For 2025, IRMAA applies if your 2023 income was over $106,000 (for individual filers) or over $212,000 (for married couples filing jointly).
The 2025 IRMAA premiums can be found at Medicare.gov. If your income has dropped since 2023 due to a life-changing event, you may qualify for an adjustment.
You can appeal an IRMAA charge in the case of qualifying event such as:
- Retirement
- Divorce
- Loss of income-producing property
- Death of a spouse
To appeal, you’ll need to complete Form SSA-44 and submit documentation to explain your situation. If approved, your IRMAA amount will be adjusted to reflect your current income.
Planning matters! IRMAA could raise your Medicare premiums, so it’s wise to keep it in mind as you plan for retirement. A little preparation now can help you avoid surprises later — and feel more confident in your retirement timing and Medicare choices.
7 Tips for Healthy Summer Travel
Travel is one of life’s great joys but —Original Medicare generally doesn’t cover care outside the U.S., and while some Medicare Advantage or Medigap plans may offer limited emergency coverage abroad, details vary. Check your plan or reach out to us before you go. For smoother travels and greater peace of mind, keep these seven health tips in mind:
- Review your plan to understand where and how it applies while traveling.
- Consider supplemental options like travel medical insurance or Medigap plans that offer international coverage.
- Bring essential medical info, including your Medicare card, medication list, and emergency contacts.
- Schedule preventive care including vaccinations and refill your prescriptions before you go.
- Make sure you pack your prescriptions and common over-the-counter meds, with extras in case of travel delays.
- Stay healthy on the go with movement, hydration, balanced meals, and rest.
- Protect your Medicare number like a credit card and review your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) after your trip for any suspicious charges.
Taking time to prepare now means you can relax and enjoy the experience — knowing you’ve done your part to stay healthy and covered along the way.
Aging Well Through Movement
Staying active is one of the most effective ways to support your health as you age. Regular movement can boost your immune system, slow biological aging, improve brain health, and enhance overall well-being. Even small steps, taken consistently, can lead to real improvements in how you feel and function every day. A few simple tips:
- Choose activities you enjoy, such as walking, swimming, or dancing
- Start slow and build gradually to avoid injury
- Add strength exercises to support muscles and bones
- Include stretching or balance-focused activities like yoga or tai chi
- Set realistic goals to track progress and stay motivated
Movement is medicine—and making it part of your routine can help you feel more energized, resilient, and ready to enjoy life at every stage.
We hope this month brings a balance of celebration, relaxation, and a little fun in the sun.
